More iPad 2 Features and Rumors Leaked

Before we have discussed about expected iPad 2 features which Apple going to be includes in its next iPad version. And now we are back with some more useful information’s and rumors which are focusing more on new features, the rumors actually come from anonymous sources in China, and have technical details about Apple’s next-generation tab.

According to a report, the new iPad will be smaller and flatter, with better, improved speakers on board. That information comes by way of the Kanteidan Blog, out of Japan. It says the new iPad’s outer case will lose three millimeters from the length and width, which won’t affect the 9.7-inch LCD screen. Reportedly, the iPad 2 will also be flatter on its back side, in some ways emulating the iPod Touch.

More important than the minor size changes are the iPad 2’s rumored on-board speakers. We heard something about openings on the rear of the case that have been speculated to allow for an SD card reader or USB port, but the source for Kanteidan Blog says the opening is actually for rear-facing, wider-range speakers.

And as expected, the source also says the iPad 2 will have a front-facing Facetime camera, as well as a rear-facing camera capable of shooting video and high-definition photos.

It’s not a ton of new information, and we’ve heard or expected to hear a lot of this stuff before. But the addition of higher-quality speakers may kill the idea that iPad 2 will support USB, something that was an exciting possibility for connectivity to various other devices. Seems that dream might be squashed. But for now you can use third party iPad Audio Speakers to enhance your audio output.

Skype for iPhone Video Calling Feature Over 3G and Wi-Fi

As we expected before, Skype for iPhone is turning out in 2011 with latest feature of video calling to its Skype App for iPhone. In Skype 3.0 version, you can place video calls from Skype on the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and 4th-Generation iPod touch, and you can also receive video calls on the iPad and the 3rd-Generation iPod touch. Video calling works over both Wi-Fi and 3G.

On iOS devices with two cameras, you can stream video from either. iPhone 3GS users, of course, can only stream video from that device’s sole rear-facing camera.

You can use the Skype app to place calls to other folks using the app, or to folks using Skype on their computers. As it did before, the Skype app continues to offer instant messaging, text messaging, audio-only chats, and the ability to call landlines and mobile phones at low rates.

Apple’s FaceTime technology is currently limited to Wi-Fi calling only. One might wonder whether Skype’s timing for adding video chat to its app might aim to make us forget about the company's recent extended outage, but that would require remembering said outage happened in the first place.

Skype for iPhone is free. Video calling requires iOS 4.0 or later, but the app can run on any device with at least iOS 3.0.

Google Translate App for iPhone With Voice Feature

Google has now officialy released the Google Translate App for iPhone, this application is providing a feature with a text to translated text, and voice to text translations.

The new application allows for 15 supporters languages to be translated from voice to text. The application works by setting you spoken or written language at the top, and the translated to language next to it. To activate the translation, click on the microphone button beside the text box, and begin speaking.

The voice-to-text translations works for 15 supported languages, including English, French, Chinese, Japanese, Italian and many more. The text-to-text translation comes with over 50 supported languages, allowing you to translate just about any language in the world to your native language.

The application even comes with two handy features, such as full-screen mode, allowing you to magnify your translation to show off to your friends. The second neat feature, is the playback voice button. This feature allows you to play the translation back in any of the 15 supported voice languages.

Verizon iPhone 4 Launch Date and Pricing Revealed

Everybody seems to be waiting for the launch date and pricing of Verizon iPhone and finally at special press conference in New York City, Verizon has confirmed that it will be carrying the iPhone 4 early next month.

Apple COO Tim Cook joined Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam on stage to announce the new partnership, saying, “We’re incredibly pleased to give Verizon’s customers the choice we’ve been waiting for.”

The Verizon iPhone will be a specially designed iPhone 4 that connects to a CDMA network. It sports the same features as the non-CDMA iPhone, including FaceTime, the Retina Display, a 5-megapixel camera, HD video and the A4 chip.

Calling this “just the beginning of a relationship between Apple and Verizon,” Cook said that he is “very optimistic” about the future.

The Verizon iPhone 4 will be available on February 10. Existing Verizon Wireless customers can pre-order beginning February 3.

The 16GB iPhone 4 will be $199.99 with a two year activation and data package. The 32GB version will cost $299.99, the same cost offered by AT&T. Verizon Wireless customers can go to this page to sign-up for more information.

One already apparent difference between Verizon and AT&T, Verizon customers will be able to use their phone as a mobile hotspot.

Windows Phone 7 Gets "VoIP"; iPhone "FaceTime" Competitor ?

Microsoft had a solid CES appearance with the announcement of many new key products. But sometimes it’s not what’s said at the main events but inside conversations that can provide a peek into the upcoming products from the company.

At a high profile CES Event, a key WP7 employee delivered, in an off comment fashion, a few tips about where the platform may be headed. One feature that was discussed was that Microsoft is working on a FaceTime type like application for Windows Phone platform.

Now we have confirmed the news that Microsoft is working on a Apple iPhone's "Facetime" competitor, a feature of the platform that allows the user to make video phone calls to other users of the iPhone.

The registry keys "VoIP" and "SIP" are hidden inside the "ControlPanel" portion of the registry, and both seem to be set to be off (by having "0" under their "Enabled" value). It's worth noting that for some reason, these keys are in a portion of the registry that contains other features that are fundamental to the platform, such as theme colors. Right now, we don't have write access to the registry to attempt to turn it on, but hopefully in the near future the homebrew community may allow us to do this.

The VoIP feature has not been revealed before, and it is not certain whether or not this will be used for the "Facetime" like feature, or if it would be available for actual VoIP calling to other Windows Phone 7 users.

Android Overtakes iPhone in U.S.A

As we told you in our post last year regarding Android overtakes iPhone by 2013, It seems that we were correct that time and now it seems that Android overtakes iPhone in early 2011. 61.5 million people in the US owned smartphones during the three months ending in November 2010, up 10 percent from the preceding three-month period. For the first time, more Americans are using phones running Google's Android operating system than Apple's iPhone, but RIM's BlackBerry is still in first place, according to comScore.

RIM fell from 37.6 percent to 33.5 percent market share of smartphones, Google captured second place among smartphone platforms by moving from 19.6 percent to 26.0 percent of US smartphone subscribers, and Apple slipped to third despite its growth from 24.2 percent to 25.0 percent of the market. Microsoft, in fourth place, fell into single digits from 10.8 percent to 9.0 percent while Palm was still last and further slipped from 4.6 percent to 3.9 percent.
